Wilpattu National Park, meaning 'Land of Lakes', is the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka at 1,317 square kilometres. Its unique feature is the existence of 'Willus' — natural, sand-rimmed water basins that fill with rainwater. Nearly 106 lakes are found throughout the park. It is among the top national parks world-renowned for its leopard population.
